Over looking paddy fields, this home is an exploration of tropical Indian architecture. The C – shaped, open courtyard house, is an interpretation of traditional Indian coastal home design principles and materials. The house was planned on axis to an ancient well found on the site. The Verandahs of various scales, are seamlessly connected to the enclosures of the house. Antique windows, columns and entire facades are assembled with hand crafted finishes of the house. The clients love for colour was embraced in the expression of the house, including 35 types of bespoke handmade cement flooring tiles. This project is a joyous construct of the found and the handmade; in the form of sheltered spaces that engage the landscape.
