Cosmos House, Kamshet

Avantika and Avinash Goyal
Kamshet, Kamshet, Maharashtra
2020
13,844 sqft

Set in the ghats by a serene lake in Kamshet, Cosmos House is conceived as an ethereal retreat for a dancer and her family. The design unfolds in connected pavilions, each with a distinct purpose and perspective of the lake. A deep veranda leads to a crescent-shaped natural stone saltwater pool, encircled by social spaces that form a constellation of life: dining, living, kitchen, and verandah.

The architecture aligns with nature’s rhythms. On solstice days, the sun’s rays strike deliberate color blocks in the living room, marking the passage of time. Sloping roofs channel seasonal rains into narrative water paths, while the roofscape itself pays homage to the undulating horizon. A metal frame with expansive glazing is softened by reclaimed timber, antique details, and cast-in-situ floors that merge inside and outside.

This home is a therapeutic antidote to urban life. It is both social and intimate, embodying generosity and openness. Designed as a living, breathing entity, Cosmos House is a dance of energies between people, place, and the cosmos itself.
