Nicobar

Client: Nicobar · Flagship stores across India (e.g., Lavelle Road, Bangalore; The Chanakya, New Delhi)
Program: Fashion & lifestyle retail

A contemporary tropical Indian language—retail as an invented, living vocabulary.

Designing for Nicobar meant more than fitting out a store—it meant inventing a language. LAB collaborated with the brand to articulate a contemporary tropical Indian vocabulary that could translate across contexts while retaining coherence.

At Lavelle Road, Bangalore, The Chanakya in New Delhi, and other flagships, this language takes shape in materials—timber, cane, terrazzo, stone—and in details that evoke warmth without nostalgia. Plants and greenery soften interiors; furniture is crafted yet minimal. The architecture provides modular flexibility so displays, installations, and events can adapt to changing seasons and collections.

The atmosphere is tropical and modern at once: verandah-like thresholds, soft light, and crafted textures are balanced with clean lines and neutral backdrops. In this way, Nicobar stores become more than retail—they are immersive expressions of a brand ethos: modern Indian identity translated into spatial experience.
