Medanta Noida redefines what a mid-size tertiary care hospital can achieve through highly efficient movement planning. With 500 beds, including 180 ICU beds and 16 operating theatres, the hospital compresses an extensive clinical programme into a 700,000 sq ft footprint while maintaining clarity, safety and quality of care.
A central planning core, supplemented by two service towers, significantly reduces travel distances and improves operational speed. Patient, public, and sterile movements are clearly segregated, ensuring infection control and safety while preserving efficiency.
At the ground level, a central elliptical cut-out brings natural light deep into the building, visually and spatially connecting the basement level with the main lobby. This transforms typically utilitarian spaces into an active, legible public realm, extending the experience of the lobby and reinforcing orientation across levels.
Despite its performance-driven planning, the hospital maintains a humane and healing environment. Daylit waiting areas punctuate the plan, offering relief and orientation for patients and families, while patient rooms are oriented towards landscaped gardens, reinforcing a connection to nature.
A patient healing garden on the 8th floor, designed for long-stay patients, incorporates a neuro-sensory walking path and medicinal planting, creating a restorative outdoor environment that supports rehabilitation and mental well-being.
The hospital’s architectural identity is further expressed through a distinct mural artwork integrated into the façade, celebrating the Tree of Life motif as a symbol of healing, continuity, and everyday life in India.
Material palettes throughout the public spaces are inspired by nature, using soothing greens, blues, and neutral tones to promote calm, reduce anxiety, and support patient comfort. Selected for durability and ease of maintenance, these materials reinforce both performance and care.
Medanta Noida demonstrates how architectural clarity, environmental sensitivity, and humane design can coexist in a high performance hospital.
